Pillow Talk: Finishes

One of the major benefits of the custom process is you get to pick out each detail from fabric to finish making your piece a one of a kind reflection of your style. Pillows are perfect for a simple change that will have a big impact. So get comfortable and let’s talk pillows!

In this article we’ll discuss different pillow edge finishes that truly take your designs custom!

Knife Edge
A knife edge finish is the most simple of seam finishes. It’s crisp edges and corners create a clean and polished appearance.

Self Welt
A welt is a simple covered piping, typically in the same fabric as the pillow. It’s a traditional and timeless look.

Contrasting Welt
Simply welting the pillow in a contrast fabric can create a clean line for interest and dimension. We like using fabrics featured elsewhere in your space to tie the whole palette together seamlessly.

Flange
Consisting of milted corners typically ½”-3”, this finish is traditionally used in bedding pillows. However, this specialty finish is a great way to add a relaxing yet luxury look to any space.

Double Flange
A double flange typically features a contrasting fabric and is a great way to an element of texture and dimension to your pillow. We love this look to tie in a secondary fabric that might be featured somewhere else in your space or to introduce a specialty fabric in a small way.

Cable Stitch
For an artisan look, try a cable stitch! Using a wider thread or cord as a decorative addition, cable stitches add an extra visual and textural element to your pillow without adding bulk. We love this finish on leather pillows!

Decorative Trim
From beading, to ruffles, to tassels, to fringe, a decorative trim is a great way to add some extra character to your pillows! We recommend this look on an accent pillow or two, rather than the whole lot, to give the collection an extra little umph!
